Family Vacations and Attractions in Southern California
There is SO much to do in Southern California while you are in the area for the convention. SoCal is a great place for investigating new things and experience the sheer pleasure of California. From the Beaches to the Mountains, from the best of nature to the best of human endeavor, Southern California is a great destination.
The Disneyland Resort
Anaheim California is the home of the world's most famous Theme Park - Disneyland. The "Happiest Place on Earth" is celebrating its 50th year in 2005, just in time for our convention. The park is currently undergoing a major refurbishment for the celebration, including a freshening of the Disneyland Railroad, one of the busiest steam powered railroads in the world, and Walt's pride and joy.
Also on the property is Disney's California Adventure, featuring the best of the west in rides, attractions, and shows. Just open is the "Tower of Terror", a very odd hotel that happens to drop 13 stories. And- Downtown Disney, an eclectic collection of restaurants, shops, and clubs is right across the parking lot.

Knott's Berry Farm
Original conceived as a Wild West preservation town to accompany a Jam and Jelly stand, the Berry Farm Theme Park has become one of the biggest attractions in Southern California. Roller Coasters in steel and wood, a runaway mine train, and one of the most complete operating narrow gauge railroads in the country. The equipment is from the Denver and Rio Grande Southern. In 1995, it a restoration process was begun to return the locomotives and rolling stock to their original colors and look. If you appreciate Narrow gauge, you will not want to miss this park.

Universal Studios and Citywalk
King Kong, Terminator 2 3D, Shrek 4D… what's not to like? Get a backstage tour at one of Hollywood's largest studios. The tour guides alone are worth the trip! Once you get off the tram, the lights of Citywalk beckon. No train stores, but retail of every other type!

Hollywood
The Mecca of the entertainment world awaits your arrival. The Capitol Records Tower, the Kodak Theatre, and Grauman's Chinese Theatre, with the famous footprint forecourt all beckon you to become the star you are. Perhaps by the end of the visit, you'll add your name to the Walk of Fame.

Olvera Street and Union Station
The oldest part of Los Angeles is represented in this lively old Pueblo. Olvera Street is the place to experience what life in LA was like in the earliest days of the city. Right across the street is the last built, and many say the finest, Union Station in the country. This was the 'end of the line' for famous name trains from Union Pacific, Southern Pacific, and Santa Fe. It remains on of the busiest train stations in the world, due to the heavy commuter use by Metro Link.

There are so many things to see and do in Southern California, that you would be able to spend months just hitting the highlights. Suffice to say, it's the place to vacation in 2005.
